12-13 years old
I have always loved to write diaries, so when I was between ages of 12-13 years old I wrote one day in my diary: I want to be a journalist or a photographer. A photographer that will meet a lot of people around the world. I would love that.
People and their stories have always been important for me. That’s why in a young age I knew that I want to work with something that is going to give me just that. I realised that I had a eye for photography and I loved to read everything I could about cameras, lenses and positions. School was never easy for me but I knew that I found something that I truly love doing.
←Me and my beautiful mama!
FYI – I take a lot of pictures of my family and my life. It helps me to remember those special times and saving those memories for ever, so I KNOW how important beautiful and special pictures is for my clients. When I started with photography we didn’t have online backup for pictures. Today – pictures will last for ever and ever.
Sturegymnasiet Halmstad Sweden
I studied hard and got my grades up to apply for a school that was in a another city (Halmstad), same city I was born in.
It was a exciting time, learning about everything in media the first year and then the second year we had to choose where we want to study for the rest two years that was left.
I moved away from home when I was 17 years old just to be able to focus on school more. It was almost 4 hours bus ride back and forth from my parents. Pretty young but I have always been able to handle a lot of responsibility. ( I went to Philippines by myself at 17 also, to visit my brother. I think I can say that my parents trusted me a lot!)
Old School 2004
I feel pretty old to write this but we did some analog photography and developed pictures in the lab. It was fun. But I was in love with Photoshop CS 1, Flashes and Digital Cameras. And still to this day I love to watch and learn from tutorials and try different techniques.
The year that I thought I would graduate
2007 was a rough year for me. 4 months before graduation I woke up one morning, stood up and fell down. I got slipped disc two places in my back and I couldn’t sleep, sit or lay down. I tried to be at school – standing up every lesson but with no sleep and a lot of pain I had to give up.
I was 18 years old and the doctors laughed at me. I was very sad not to celebrate our graduation with my classmates. I thought that I had to kiss photography goodbye forever.
One year later I had a cat-scan and it was proven that I have slipped discs.
Today my back is all good because I work out several times per week, it took some years to get there but it is worth every single sweat to not have that pain in my back!
Because I didn’t graduated, I had a lot to study to do. It took years for me to get my “slut betyg” (basically my grades to be able to go to University etc). But when I finally got it I cried a lot. It was many times I wanted to give up on my photography dreams but I kept working hard, learning everything I could about photography and did a lot of shoots. I learned one of the biggest lessons during that time – never give up of something that you really want and believe that you can do, how hard it may it seems to be or how long it will take to achieve it.
After months of craziness with study and work I could finally apply for my absolute dream school. Gamleby Photography school – advertise and magazine.
10 June 2014
I will always remember that day I got the call that I got accepted at Gamleby Photography school. I was at the beach with my oldest nephew and my dear friend Pernilla. I was excited, nervous and so so so grateful to finally study photography in one of the best Photography school in Sweden. Finally I got payback on all the sets back I had!
I had a lot of portrait, wedding and product photoshoots but also hours and hours watching tutorials.
- Had 16+ weddings!
- 13+ portrait and pregnancy photoshoots!
- Did my first brochure and learned Indesign.
- Photoshoot in Paris with five amazing girls.
Intern in New York City.
2015 was a good and excited year for me. January 2015 I started my company Mikaela Svarfvar AB and in August I moved to New York.
I think I can write a whole book about my internship in New York but I will keep it short here.
I was a intern at Walter Schupfer Management and first assistant for Eddie Collins.
I learned a lot, killing with kindness, I get along with everyone, seeing big photographer at work and hustle. It was a very growing and empowering journey. Loved every single bit of it.
Below you can read my recommendation from my internship in NYC.
I grew a lot as a person and photographer during that time ♥ And most of all I loved that I was able to meet people from everywhere in one city!
Recommendation from my internship at WSM:
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing on behalf of Mikaela Svarfvar for whom I am happy to give a glowing recommendation after her internship with Walter Schupfer Management from August 2015 to February 2016. During her time with our agency, I had come to know her as a highly ambitious, hard-working team player who was consistently willing to go the distance to learn and support our team.
We hire interns to work with our company’s various departments, and in my history with WSM as the Art Department Manager, Ms. Svarfvar has been one of the most dedicated and resourceful individuals with whom I had the pleasure to work. She showed great drive and creativity to complete any task. With her maturity and professionalism, she showed the ability to form strong relationships with all members of our staff, including agents, producers and our company’s talent. I am positive that Ms. Svarfvar would excel in her future career endeavors.
10/9 – 2017.
After shooting a wedding in Stockholm, me and my boyfriend went for a walk. We were hungry and wanted to find some nice restaurant near by. As we were walking I saw that the sky was on fire from the sun further away. On the bridge, standing and looking at the sunset – my love of my life asked me a question that changed my whole life.
Right then and there I start crying and kept kissing and hugging my beloved – now fiancé! I was thrilled, excited and so incredible surprised!
We called our loved ones, cried little bit more and celebrated with a wonderful dinner just staring at each other 🙂
We are getting married in England Spring 2018! I have learned so much about wedding planning! And I’m so happy to finally understand what my brides have been talking about.
I love you Cornel. You are the most awesome man I have met and I’m so proud of you. You are my chosen one.
Dreams and goals.
If you made this far in my years of photography – congrats!
2018 is going to be one exciting year! In November 2017 I moved to London. Spring 2018 me and my beloved are getting married! I look forward to understand my clients even more! And most of all I look forward to celebrate our love and my couples love of 2018!!
People + Photo = Love
On a personal note:
My favourite tv-shows is Shark Tank & First date restaurant – because it all kinds of people trying to find love or have a great business idea. Everyone have their one story and I love to learn from whom ever who want to share their story. I get fired up when I hear about success stories or people that do amazing things even if they struggled and had a rough upbringing. I know I can say that my life is a success already because success for me is doing what I love and love others like I love myself.
It is easy for me to relate to people and I’m as a person wearing my heart in my sleeve. It’s who I’m and how I want to work and live my life.
Now you have got a pretty good glimpse of who I’m, where I’m going and why I work as a photographer. I hope you feel secure that my work and my clients are very important to me. I fully understand the responsibility and the task that you are giving me if you choose me as your photographer.
Thank you for your time and I hope I will hear from you! If you have any questions what so ever – go to contact and send me a e-mail and I will come back soon as possible! 🙂
